Day Two
Today, I practiced the town meeting presentation that me and Alfonso are going to do during town meeting on Monday. We only had a certain amount of time of 5 minutes which was much shorter than the presentation that we are going to do towards businesses. As a result, we had to eliminate alot of the slides and make it easier to understand as just a small introduction to the grade level meeting presentations that will occur in the future. We then practiced it in front of our group to give us feedback on what to include and what not to include. It is an important part of the process to always self evaluate your work and see what can make it better. It was a good building exercise to communicate with the team and build off of each other.
Towards the second half of service learning, we got into 2 groups of 5 to practice our presentations some more. We practiced and then presented in the MMLH to receive constructive criticism on how we can make it better and look more professional. I got alot out of it as I was allowed to practice my presentation skills and be more comfortable with the KIVA material. Having teachers and students come in also helped give us a different perspective and allowed us to focus on certain things that we didn't notice before. Small things such as transitions and the organization of the slides make a big difference in a presentation that needs to grab attention of the business workers.
Collaboration is a big part of this project and communication comes with that. I have to interact with alot of different types of people here and it is enjoyable to learn from everyone. Overall, it was a great day full of team building exercises and can't wait to improve as an individual and as a group. I look forward to our first real presentation and am excited for the future of this group. It has a great cause in mind and I feel deeply connected to its beliefs.

Day One
Today, most of our morning was spent on learning about the presentation on KIVA and then practicing our different roles for our future presentations to businesses. Learning about KIVA and their mission through different videos helped me better understand the importance of their cause. I already feel connected to this project and have a better understanding on how to truly alleviate poverty for future generations.
The practice presentations themselves were interesting and engaging and was a good starting point that we will build off of in the future. Personally I have a lot of improvement I need to make in my part and look forward to becoming more comfortable with the material. I really relate to the cause and can’t wait to share my passion with others and provide awareness.

Also, we have to get better communicating as a team, and that will just take more practice. The timing with the presenter and the slides needs to be more fluid and we can find that chemistry later. I enjoy this service learning project compared to those previously because I really relate to the entrepreneurial message and the financial economics that these people in different countries face. I am lucky that I was born in a country filled with opportunities and I have the financial mobility if I work hard enough. These people have the hard work already and just need a little support that they can’t find in their own communities. It is important to develop people that are just like us and give them the same chance to stand out. They are all capable, skilled people and if I can have any impact in helping them achieve their goals, I will do it.
