Melissa SL Day 2 Reflection

Today we mostly used our time to prepare for future Service Learning days and our upcoming presentations. It is hard to really feel connected to the community we are serving, since it is such a diverse group of individuals from around the world. However, it feels good to teach people about Kiva, with the hope of getting them involved as well.
The majority of my day was spent thinking of ideas for the bulletin board we are going to keep in the hallway. It is important to make it eye catching so people will want to stop and learn more. It is nice having a larger Service Learning group, because we are able to divide up and accomplish more than we could individually. While Yena and I were working on the bullitein board, the rest of the group was able to prepare our town meeting presentation, as well as the presentations for the underclassmen.

We then practiced our actual presentation we will be giving to businesses. This was important because we had faculty members who didn’t know anything about Kiva come and watch. They were able to give us constructive criticism on different areas we could improve upon. It also helped us engage with the community, because the people we presented too didn’t know about Kiva before. I am excited to come back next Service Learning day and actually go out to a business and present.
